Recipe: Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

MF PB Dog Biscuits Listen up, dog owners! National Dog Day is August 26th, and since our gourmet cookies and brownies would make Fido sick as a dog, may I suggest another way to treat your four-legged friend? Try this recipe and I predict your beloved pet will adore you even more (if that's possible). These are also a great idea for a bake sale—sure to sell-out!

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits adapted from allrecipes 1 cup rolled oats 1/3 cup shortening 1 cup boiling water 3/4 cup cornmeal 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 1/2 cup milk 1 egg 1 cup peanut butter 3 cups whole wheat flour Directions Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, combine oats, shortening, and boiling water. Allow to sit for 10 minutes. Add cornmeal, salt, sugar, milk, egg, and peanut butter and mix well. Slowly add in flour until you have a thick dough. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out with a cookie cutter. (I used a ravioli cutter, then imprinted "paw" prints using my thumb and pinky fingers.) Bake for 25 - 30 minutes, or until barely browned around the edges. Makes 2 - 3 dozen, depending on the size of cookie cutter. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
