Apple season has officially arrived, which means that it's time to start slicing up those beauties and get them in the oven! This recipe will make your house smell better than any seasonal candle on the market. And one more thing--please note that the variety of apple doesn't matter, so long as it is firm. I actually like to use two or three varieties in this recipe for a more interesting flavor.
Autumn Apple Crisp
3 medium apples, cored and sliced 2 tablespoons lemon juice 3/4 cup flour 3/4 cup oats 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 6 tablespoons butter, softened Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice apples and toss with lemon juice, then place apples in a 9x9 baking dish. Combine dry ingredients thoroughly in a bowl, then mix in pats of butter with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly. Spread crumb mixture evenly over apples and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown on top. This recipe can easily be doubled to serve a larger crowd and is delicious with ice cream. Enjoy!
