The kids burst through the door at the end of the school day, dump their backpacks and head straight to the fridge or pantry in search of one thing and one thing only---the after school snack!
The after school snack has been around since little cavemen children first learned to paint on cave walls and count sticks. There's just something about a long day of learning that makes little stomachs ravenous. In my opinion, the ideal after school snack has three qualities: quick, hearty, and delicious.
That's why today, I'm going with a classic: apple halves with a dollop of peanut butter in each. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this snack--sweet, tart, crispy, smooth, fruit, and some protein. WOW! Simply cut an apple in half, core it, and fill the hole with a spot of peanut butter. Easy peasy. Plus, no need for a plate or utensil for serving, so there's no cleanup!
Over the next few weeks, I'll share some of my other favorite after school snacks. Some old, some new, and all begging for you to try. But before I go, I have to ask: What's your favorite after school snack?
