When’s the last time you had a frozen banana? Too long, I bet. Not only is this treat delicious, I like to pretend it’s healthy since there’s a banana in there! Actually, let’s talk about what happens to bananas when they’re frozen. They develop a creamy texture, not unlike hard ice cream. It’s a miracle of science, I tell you. Load these bananas with your favorite toppings—chopped candy bars, crushed pretzels, caramel drizzle, whatever you like! Just go bananas.
Frozen Bananas with Caramel and Pretzels
12 ounces chocolate melting wafers
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cups crushed pretzels
1 cup chopped candybar
1/2 cup caramel topping
wax paper, cut into squares for wrappers
Melt chocolate according to directions and stir in vegetable oil. Set Peel bananas and trim 1-2 inches from the bottom and insert a popsicle stick 2/3 of the way in. (Hint: If you have large bananas, cut them in half to keep them from getting top heavy on the stick.) Dip in chocolate and use a spatula to coat them evenly. Place on a piece of wax paper and put in the freezer for 30 seconds to allow chocolate to set enough to attach toppings. Coat banana with pretzels, candy bar pieces, then drizzle with caramel. Place back on wax paper and wrap loosely before freezing for at least 4 hours before serving.
HINT: A just-ripe banana produces the most ice cream-like consistency. Over or under ripe bananas don’t work as well.
